Bear Valley Springs, California Comments: Mister Kekona, Sort Of Sad To Know That By The Late Sixties, The First Air Cav Had Been " Dispersed " All Over Vietnam, Spread From Hue / Phu Bai To The Delta. I See That Your Unit ( B / 229th AHB ) Was In Bear Cat-Way Down South ( Once Home To The 9th Inf Division ) In 1965-66 We Were All Together In The Central Highlands ( Though At Various Locations ) With Our Base Camp At An Khe ( Camp Radcliff ) The Flight Lines Were Always A Hive Of Activity. You Served With A Unit Of Distinction - The 229th. It Was Mostly A And B Companies That Provided The Lift To LZ XRAY ( And Columbus, Etc ) In What Was To Become The Battle Of The Ia Drang In November 1965. One Of The First KIAs Was A Crew Chief From The 229th Who Was Shot Through The Neck As He Sat In The Gun-Well... A Job Well Done - No Matter Where In-Country. If You Didn't Get A "WELCOME HOME " You Have One Now. Thank You For Your Service With The First Air Cav. All The Best To You And Yours....
