Unit A/2Bn/12th Cav

When and where did you serve with the 1st CAV? Jan 26 to May 19, 1969

City, State or Country that you live in now? Danbury, NH

Comments:
Was John Douglas' machine gunner assistant until May 19th, 1969 when two Chi Coms went off about 10 feet from our position. I took the brunt of them. The positions to our right and left were also fragged. I had shrapnel to my right elbow, left foot, left knee, right lower leg, etc., etc.
I would like to hear from fellow troopers from the first squad, first platoon of Ace High, about what happened after I left.
Presently retired mechanical engineer living in Danbury, NH with Mary Ann, my wife.

To and for all of my Air Cav brothers.
Think of ALL of you each and everyday, the heroic Sky-Troopers that gave their all, those that are scarred by physical wounds, not to mention the mental anguish of the many, as well as the known ( and unknown ) maladies of the evils of Agent Orange and other "agents".
Our commander General ( Harry O ) Kennard is in heaven looking after his troops, while the likes of LBJ and his running dog lackeys are burning eternally in hell along with Uncle Ho, Giap, and the rest of the evils.
The US Government weaklings let the strong down. Let's not forget that the First Air Cav NEVER lost a battle. Sure there was LZ Bird and English, there were odds beyond what the planners in D.C. ever could imagine, there were plans that went awry, but the Air Cav always did the job ( remember it was elements of the First Cav that relieved the MARINES at Khe Zahn )
Let us remember too Major Donald Radcliff who was supporting the MARINES when he was shot down and killed in 1965, and thus, Camp Radcliff at An Khe was so-named for him.
The legacy of the First Air Cav will NEVER die.
Now we have all of these "P.X. Heroes " strutting around in their Cammies and Berets, means nothing.
Let us remember the still white-tee shirts, the yellow/black US ARMY strip, as well as the black-on-white name tag(s)our guys still wore in the face of an enemy determined to win ( The Ia Drang, etc )
Some M-14s were still out there too. Some of the guys had not seen an M-16 until they arrived in country.
I think about ALL of you every single day.
Going back to the Middle East soon ( have to wait for the temps to fall below 120F )
Working with UH-60s. Miss the UH-1s so very much.
